With the cab of my truck off the chassis and cleaned out, I was getting a real good look at the inner door structure. The gears in my head started turning and out sprouted a brilliant idea for minimalist and lightweight race car style door panels!
The end result will be a 2 piece door panel that can be left as aluminum, bare race car style, or you can get fancy and lay foam and vinyl over it, like upholstering a seat with stitching and all that.
So a two piece door panel. There will be an inner piece that acts as a new support for the conversion, and the outer piece, the piece that you will see.
The conversion Im speaking of? It will replace the factory style inner door handles with 55-60 Chevy style handles. Ive always loved that style of inner door handles, and I see them on old hot rods often. The best part? You can get matching window crank arms!
You can expect to see much more of this idea come into existence very soon, I am highly motivated! Making door panels has been on the top 3 of my bucket list of new parts to make. I already have the inner door panel piece and the outer door panel designed. I need to order those inner door handle mechanisms so I can get measurements off of them and add them to my inner door panel piece, and get test cuts made.
I will be showcasing the fitment on YouTube, along with all of my other products soon (something I should have done a long time ago), so if you aren't already subscribed, please consider doing so.
